Steven Benson says, "When I think of unban landscapes, what comes to mind is a landscape that does not feel ‘natural’. The photographs could refer to the built environment in myriad ways. The images could represent human interaction with the land on a grand scale such as public parks and urban spawl or the interaction could have more of a private quality like someone’s backyard. I’m always interested in opportunities like this exhibition to see new work." Steven Benson is a photographer, videographer, and contributing curator at the Southeast Museum of Photography in Daytona producing retrospectives of Roger Ballen and Arno Minkkinen, among others. He was formerly a Professor of Photography & Video, Chair of the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies, and Chair of Interactive Media. Steven is Vice-President of the Board of Directors for SNAP! Orlando and ASMP Greater Florida. He holds a BFA from the College for Creative Studies and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He is the recipient of three Creative Artist Grants-Michigan Council for the Arts and an NEA/ArtsMidwest Fellowship. His work can be found in numerous collections, including the Museum of Fine Art-Houston, Detroit Institute of Arts, Bibliotheque Nationale-France, Centre Georges Pompidou, and Museet for Fotokunst-Denmark. Solo exhibitions of his photography include the Centre Georges Pompidou and photography festivals/biennials/triennials in Argentina, South Korea, Germany, Syria, Poland, China, Denmark, and FotoFest.
