PH MuseumThe 11th edition of the PHmuseum Photography Grant is now open for
submissions. From today participants can present their projects to the open call that offers
€10,000 in cash prizes meant to support photographers and recognise the importance of visual
storytelling. Beyond the monetary prizes the call offers several opportunities to exhibit, produce
work, get feedback and exposure.
Three applicants will be granted the opportunity to exhibit their work thanks to our collaboration with leading photography institutions. For the fifth consecutive year, the team of PhEST (Monopoli, Italy) will select a project among all the submissions to be showcased at the 2023 edition of the festival. For the fourth time in a row, another work will be exhibited at Getxophoto (Getxo, Spain), selected by the new Artistic Director Maria Ptqk for the main program of the Basque festival 2023 edition. In addition to the show production, the winner will receive an artist fee of €400 and accommodation for 2 nights during the Opening Week. For the first time this year, Fonderia 20.9 (Verona, Italy) Curators Chiara Bandino and Francesco Biasi will select a project from all the submissions to exhibit in their gallery in 2023. The recipient will get an artist fee of €200, a budget of €800 euro to cover the exhibition production and travel expenses, while accommodation and food will be provided during the stay in Verona.
The open call further offers the opportunity to work with Landskrona Foto (Sweden). Their Director, Jenny Nordquist, will independently select a profile among all the applicants who will be the recipient of a residency bursary. The program will take place for 6 weeks during the autumn of 2023 in Landskrona, Sweden. The artist in residency receives a grant of approximately €1,500, plus travel expenses, an apartment in Landskrona, and an office space, committing to producing a unique body of work within the residency period having his/her new surrounding area as the main focus.
Morevoer, the work of the finalists (up to 40 projects) will be screened at Verzasca Foto (Switzerland), Jakarta International Photography Festival (Indonesia) and PhMuseum Days (Italy). Other six applicants selected by the PhMuseum team will be able to get their work reviewed by a mentor from PhMuseum Education. Prize recipients, honourable mention awardees, and several selected submissions will be promoted on the PhMuseum channels throughout the year.
To enter, you are invited to present one or multiple cohesive series featuring between 5 and 20 images. The theme is open and all photographic approaches are welcomed. All entries will be reviewed by an independent jury comprised of Jason Fulford (Photographer and co-founder of J&L Books), Federica Chiocchetti (Director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts Le Locle - MBAL), Vasantha Yogananthan (Photographer and co-founder of Chose Commune), and Max Siedentopf (Multi-disciplinary conceptual artist). The review will happen in March with the shortlist to be announced in April.
Over the years, the PhMuseum Photography Grant has grown into a leading photography prize, awarding photographers like Max Pinckers, Poulomi Basu, Jacob Aue Sobol, Diana Markosian, and Tomas van Houtryve, among many others. We look forward to continuing this tradition even in this 11th anniversary edition. The deadline is 17 February, while there is a reduced entry fee option until 26 January.
